Blended the way you like it.

whiskey blender Blended the way you like it.

Unless you sip on single malts exclusively, odds are you’ve run into a blended whiskey somewhere along the way. whisky Blender (£35 and up; roughly $55+) lets you create your own specialized blend from a selection of seven different whiskys, each available for adding in amounts as small as 10ml. Once you’re done, you can give the blend its own name, which will be handwritten on the label that adorns the 70cl corked decanter bottle, and save the mixture for future refills should the mixture be to your liking. While the wisdom of order booze you’ve never tasted before is always questionable, there’s no doubt that it’ll be far more interesting than your average bottle of Old Crow. I just got me 1 of these, maybe i should have bought 2?

the glenlivet 70 year old whiskey bf32o The Glenlivet 70 Year Old: World’s oldest single malt whisky goes on auction

the Glenlivet 70 year old whiskeyThe Glenlivet 70 year old whiskey which is the oldest single malt in the world.

Glenlivet’s name has traditionally been on the list of famous whiskey connoisseurs since the 18th century, when it was initially made available for sale. Under the aegis of Gordon and MacPhail’s ‘Generations’ label, Glenlivet has been known for some of the most uniquely flavored malt whiskey’s the world over. at the FNB Whiskey Live Festival 2011 in South Africa, 2 bottles of the 1940 Glenlivet will go on auction, to raise funds for the Foundation of Alcohol Related Research (FARR).

Left for maturation during the heights of the Battle of Britain, the whiskey was first aged in a First Shill Sherry Butt, before being transferred into bottles. The rare amber color of the beverage, along with multi-layered rich aromas of old cocktail cabinet’s wood, fine leather, fruits, and even a shade of wax, these bottles have more than just whiskey in them; they have works of art, rather. Their container, the tear shaped glass decanter with silver top which British Hallmarked, further adds to the exclusivity of the bottle. The decanters have been handcrafted by blowing up the glass into the unique shape, before fitting on the silver cap.

Other than this particular whiskey, we had earlier shown you some previous editions such as:

· 70 year-old Speyside Mortlach

This is actually a ‘sister’ malt whiskey of the Glenlivet, which has been retailed at over $15,000 a bottle. The Mortlach was left for aging 2 years before the Glenlivet, and in 2008 was allowed to be taken out from the casks, and then bottled only to be later unveiled and tasted by a select group of whiskey connoisseurs in Edinburgh, Scotland.

The Original Moonshine

moonshine The Original Moonshine

Had a taste (or two) last night. Thought I’d bring this previous post out of the archives and make more of you aware of the company.

Ever heard the term “blind-drunk”? Well, moonshine is where the term originated. Back when hillbillies were cooking up corn mash in the back yard, a bad batch could cause blindness. Sounds fun, right? Well, this stuff is a much safer introduction to the age-old tradition of copper-kettle-cooked homemade whiskey. It’s made the same way, but it’s only 80-proof and probably a little easier to get your friends to try.

Hudson Manhattan Rye Whiskey

hudson manhattan whiskey Hudson Manhattan Rye Whiskey

It’s somewhat hard to believe, but rye hasn’t been produced in New York since the prohibition days of gangsters, speakeasies, and secret, booze-eating trap doors. Hudson Manhattan Rye Whiskey ($50) is out to remedy this. Hudson’s rye is made from whole grain rye, one batch at a time, ensuring a true 92 proof product, with a fruity, floral taste, unmistakable rye edge, and smooth finish. In addition, each bottle is hand-filled, capped, waxed, and numbered, and is, unsurprisingly, a nearly perfect base for a tasty manhattan.

In case you didn’t already knowwhiskey rocks! As we know, adding ice to certain tiers of cognac, scotch, and cordials is a no-no. Here to save us from fire breathing and faux-pas are whiskey rocks. Made in Vermont of natural soapstone these stones can be used to chill your favorite spirits without diluting their flavors. the stones are nonporous, and will impart neither an odor nor a flavor to your libation. Simply keep them in the freezer and use, and reuse, and reuse… And they look cool – pretty win-win if you ask me.

Instead of a lump of coal, put a bag of rocks in someone’s stocking this year.
